Action Groups Update - March 2024

Greener Berwick Action Groups Update

Transport and Active Travel Action Group

The new rural transport officer is Richard Froggett. NCC has been asked about progress with real time bus timetables at Golden Square, and a possible summer park and ride using the B1 service. The B1 is also now running later in the evenings and we need to get the word out by distributing timetables. The Cargo bike is available for use after training, and ideas for use of this bike are welcome to Tracy Atkin at NCC climate team: climate@northumberland.gov.uk

Tweed Estuary Pollution Action Group

Algae monitoring continues. Waiting for Northumbrian Water to arrange water ranger training.

Growing Communities Action Group

Work has started on the Chapel Street beds, and a new member has joined the group. More volunteers are welcome – just turn up on the 1st or 3rd Friday of any month, 10am to 12 midday. The next one is Friday 15 March 10am outside the library – tools are provided – help beautify Berwick.  Look for a display in the library about the gardens, to get suggestions from the community - share your ideas.

Zero Waste Hub Action Group

The next Repair Café is Sat 23 March 10am to 1pm in the Salvation Army Hall on Church Street (usually the last Saturday every month – altered this month due to Easter).
The admin and funding work to establish a tools library has been started.

Warm Homes Action Group

The group continues to distribute leaflets about energy company grants and insulation schemes. Three of the team have completed an online energy ambassador course, and an energy advice table could be held at the Repair Café.
