Action Groups Update - August 2023
Transport and Active Travel Action Group
Members have updated bus stop info to assist Northumberland County Council (NCC) in keeping this up to date and following recent Zoom with NCC they will take account of our transport survey results for future funding bids to improve cycleways etc.
Tweed Estuary Pollution Action Group
Six members continue to monitor Estuary algae monthly. Liaison with Northumbrian Water (NW) continues and NW have agreed to hold another public meeting end October to explain their latest business plan (date TBA).
Single Use Plastic Action Group
This group has achieved its aim of getting the single use plastic free status award through 15 business sign ups. The group will disband for the time being to focus on other activities but Sue (and others) will contact supermarkets to discuss improving facilities in their stores for depositing plastic film that is not recycleable in blue bins.
Growing Communities Action Group
Jo reported that two recent funding bids have not been successful but more will be made – until funding achieved there can no further progress. Jo will watch for funding bid opportunities.
Zero Waste Hub Action Group
Tania reported that the first Repair Café will be held at Salvation Army building, Church Road, Berwick on 9th September 2023, 10-1pm. Going forward there is the possibility of Town Council funding for the Repair Café. Northern Soul Kitchen doing cakes for the event – donations requested for cakes/repairs. Tania will visit East Linton Repair Café to see how they run their facility.
Warm Homes Action Group
Martin reported that the group have delivered leaflets/talked at doors of many house in Greenses area about availability of energy saving grants. 21 people have indicated interest in applying to NCC for a grant, but currently waiting NCC response. More funding required for any further Warmer Homes group activity and Martin will look for funding bid opportunities.
